矢印やじるしが自分じぶんの側がわに向むかっているとき、「くれる」を使つかいます。丁寧ていねいさの違ちがいではありません。

This is not about politeness. It is about direction. When the arrow points into your own circle — you, your family, your team — Japanese uses kureru. Everything else is ageru.

Use it when the receiver is you or someone in your circle.

あげます

someone gives (to another person)

もらう人ひとが、自分じぶんの側がわではないときに使つかいます。

自分じぶんがあげるときも、他ほかの人ひとどうしのときも、同おなじです。

Use it when the receiver is outside your circle.
This covers both “I gave to someone” and “A gave to B”.
